PORKY THE PORCUPINE

I wish you could see this picture a little better. It was a porcupine that we had come across on the trail we were riding on. It was really cool to see one up close. It scurried up the tree ~ AS IF we were going to harm it.

The Last Day of Summer

It is officially the last day of summer ~so we loaded up the kids, packed a picnic and took the 4 wheeler out to Josh's moms property and rode around in the woods. We came upon a porcupine which wobbled its way up into a tree and a couple of deer. We then found a nice grassy, sunny spot -layed out the blanket and ate our lunch. The kids picked leaves for a project I will be doing this week with the kids in my class at school. Before we knew it, it was time to get home for naps. We all slept except for Ella who read quietly. Then later we had Jan and Gary over for supper. It was the perfect last day of summer.

My Hooligans

I never thought I'd see the day that all three kids would look at the camera at once and actually be smiling. I love this picture. Notice my little Rexy'x mischevious twinkle (he gets this from his daddy), Ella's sweet pose and Zeke is eating his fingers as usual these days.

Ella, Rex and Zeke in Grand Marais

This morning, it was so beautiful as the fog lifted from Lake Superior off into infinity. It had rained very hard the night before, but the day already promised lots of sunshine and warm temps. We are all having so much fun on our very needed and highly anticipated vacation. Rex asks us every day (while we are here) if we are going to "Grand Marais" today? I am thinking he does't understand the concept of we ARE in Grand Marais. To him it has been a mirage for so long and when we finally arrived he is lost to confusion. None the less, he loves the water and throwing rocks. He continues to keep us in absolute wariness as he thinks nothing of wandering and exploring by himself. (So much for vacation.) Zeke is doing awesome and catches naps anywhere he wants as we stroll around town, shopping, grabbing a java or dining at Sven and Ole's. Ella wants to do everything at once and is disappointed when we can't. Oh to be a child again!
